The Buenos Aires, Argentina-born, Amsterdam-based producer and DJ Augusto Taito finally lands on Mexico’s Illegal Alien Records to present Hard Pill to Swallow, a solo work of five original tracks. The expression that gives the work its title describes something hard or difficult to accept: could it be the sound, which unstoppably sweeps away everything in its path, or could it be some of the psychic tribulations that the Argentinean artist experienced in the making of this work?
The track that opens this work is called Anarquía. Anarchy is the political system characterized by the absence of any form of state or government and the exaltation of the absolute freedom of the individual. If we stick to the sound correlate of this linguistic form, it results in densely layered and rhythmically populated sound trammel. Once it stabilizes, it runs merrily through the speakers tirelessly and ferociously.
As the track continues to settle, laser beams shoot through the air, as if the song wants to become a Techno festival, leaving the club. But once it seems to find a place in fresh green pastures, the underground grabs the beat and pulls it into the veins of the night. Once again anarchy emerges in the sound, through uncontrolled, sound-design-mediated de-control. The beat becomes fast and very fresh, as well as quite enjoyable and upbeat. It’s a track that works amazingly as a trigger for the whole EP, which grabs you immediately; a perfect debut for Taito on Illegal Alien.
