Club Furies

From the unknown grey sound mass to esoteric rhythms and dub echoes. From the origin of the sound and the journey it takes: melancholic, dark, cinematic. This is Signature Dark Grey, sub-label of Signature Dark, which releases dub techno and techno with a strong artistic touch – still listenable but also danceable.  Founded in March 2021 in Helsinki, its main aim is to release dark and minimalist music with a dub techno and techno profile, with a strong focus on experimentation, present in its releases.

After the first installment, Signature Dark Gray releases the second remix collection of his series. The release contains remixed versions of some of Empath’s songs, released through the Signature Dark label. The collection is called Signature Dark Remixes – Empath, in which the artists were asked to make a new remixed version of the works included in the albums Binaural Blues and Music for Hypnagogia. The artists were given free rein to choose which original work they would remix. The result was six works that represent the aesthetics of techno and dub techno, gently delving from experimental hypnotic sound to dub techno.

Tm Shuffle hails from the forests of Ruutana, Finland. His passion for music began in the early nineties, and his record collection and musical vision have grown ever since. He runs Vuo Records, where he has released music by Trevor Deep Jr, Stardub, Ohm, Kalle-M, Octaedre, himself, and many more. In both his productions and his DJ sets, the music is always the focus. His sound is a sum of all those bass-drum kicks, of which there have been quite a few, and which we could call dub techno, although it’s more than that: it’s 4 am moods and endless grooves, filtered delays, and undulating hi-hats. Sometimes techno, sometimes house, and most of the time something beyond.

Tm Shuffle decided to remix Empath’s original, Skraeling, from Music For Hypnagogia. The sound of the original mix oscillates between silence and the noise of clock hands and old doors twisting in oblivion, opening the space for the memory of what has been forgotten, re-actualizing it in the memory. The sound structure modelled by the native of the Ruutana forests elevates the oblivion behind which the memory hides to green and fantastic terrain – in the literal sense of the word, chimerical, feigned, which has no reality – through house flashes and dub rhythms.

So it is that from the pendulum of the original sound to the house/dub fantasy wave, idyllic bubbles emerge and begin to float around us, in the middle of the dancefloor, and with the dancers/listeners enchanted by the sound. The conversion thus happens placidly and velvety, surrounded by joy and relaxation, whose visual correlate is green meadows that end as far as the horizon does. This evokes full feelings and emotions, full of happiness and peace.
