Club Furies

Helsinki’s electronic music label, founded in 2017, and run by ODJ Pirkka, EABE, presents two of the best Finnish dark electro auteurs of today. Hailing from Tampere, Empath – an old acquaintance of Club Furies – and Halvtrak – who joins our words – combine forces to present an experimental extended play that has been split in two. The artists wanted to combine musical ideas on this release, after noticing some interesting similarities in their musical tastes. They made some tracks influenced by EBM and 90s electro with a techno attitude. A genre lab test on this would probably find substantial traces of IDM, abstract electro, industrial and techno. Glowing in the dark, these visions exist in a warm and loving space.

The two Halvtrak tracks surround the Empath tracks, if we go by the order in which they are presented: Fated Steps and The Diminishing surround Panpsykism and Fohat. If we go by the sound, however, there is a perfect synthesis and symbiosis between the two artists. And as every beginning has its end, The Diminishing covers everything in nostalgic darkness, enclosing the whole sound in utopian halos that are anchored in fresh and agile sonic presents. Playful in the manner of a pinball of sound waves, the ambience is tinged with subtle EBM and fleeting electro.

The atmospheres created by this sound design resemble the worlds of Tron: Legacy, amidst presents that seek the crack and the portal to neon colours and endless cybernetic circuits. At this juncture, the dimensions of time and space are decoupled from this world, taking us into hitherto unknown spaces and times. In the end, everything has to come to silence; but the blurring of the noise that leads us to sonic nothingness is magnificent: subtle, delicate, progressive, perfect.

It is undoubtedly a song that perfectly closes this split EP, one of our favourite ways of presenting the work of two artists in the same work, because it opens the art to the perspective of two minds and two ways of understanding sound. In this way, EABE seals a phenomenal work, this time provided by Halvtrak and Empath.
