Club Furies Premiere: Esteban Miranda – Redento [Signal Rec]

Spanish label Signal Rec returns to the shelves with a new work by artist Esteban Miranda. This multi-faceted Colombian artist presents futuristic tones over a driving bassline, making him a perfect mood setter. The relentless grooves of his five tracks take us into a world of tortuous sound effects and haunting soundscapes. It can be described as «blasphemous rails leading to the same place, different visions merging with a single purpose».

At the heart of Blasphemous – perhaps the title alludes to the action game that combines fast-paced, hack-n-slash combat with a deep, evocative narrative – the EP that lends its name to Esteban Miranda‘s new work, we come across Redento. The name of this track, if we are to understand the semantics of the language of this work, alludes to the barefoot pilgrim of the Order of the Genuflectors, an old man who appears with bound hands and feet and a wineskin hanging from his neck, making him bend forward.

As for Redento‘s sound, it is presented with crescendoing bulbs of sound that are quickly complemented by another layer that accelerates them, balancing the mix. With these two elements poured in, the track runs placidly until it encounters a particle accelerator, which infuses the sound with more rhythm and speed, reconverting it into dense, but at the same time thin and piercing strands. With this, the sound resembles the silhouette of that barefoot pilgrim, due to the density of the sound, bound by the design.

It is a song that serves as an apex for the previous and subsequent tracks, being a handle for the whole work. Esteban Miranda continues to impress us with his sound, as does the curation of Signal Rec, one of our favourites on the circuit. And it couldn’t be otherwise, given that both Colombia and Spain are two places in the electronic world that flourish in techno, one that can boast of being real techno.
