Vibrations of Gravity makes a triumphant return to Subsist Records – after Reverse Engineering and Introspective Trip – with his latest EP, entitled Strive to Be Better. The Spanish artist has his own label, Autosimilar, with releases on renowned platforms such as Flash Recordings, R3volution, Drei Vinyl, Luminal, and many others. This EP, a testament to his innovative capacity, delves into a kaleidoscope of lysergic sounds, pushing the boundaries of techno into new and unexplored territories.

Strive to Be Better unfolds as a sonic odyssey, taking listeners on a mesmerizing journey through shifting textures, hypnotic rhythms, and intricate soundscapes. The EP’s exploration of lysergic sounds demonstrates an experimental spirit, daring to challenge traditional techno norms. The result is a collection of tracks that not only resonate on the dancefloor but also invite introspection, creating a dynamic listening experience that transcends the confines of conventional electronic music.

Heterochromia is a phenomenon of the eye that modifies the colour of the iris. There are complete heterochromias, when one iris is a different colour from the other, and partial heterochromias when only part of an iris is a different colour from the rest of that iris. If we stick to the lysergic sound of the whole work, to the title that evokes its fundamental intention, and to the title of the second track, Heterochromia, we find ourselves in difficult terrain, both conceptually and sonically.

Firstly, because heterochromic phenomena can evoke lysergic effects in a person, or because it can be a metaphor for the transformation of sound into something else, which can be partial or complete. As the album’s second track, in the context of seven exceptional tracks, it is still in that stage of partial transformation. Its rhythmic moorings are still taciturn and reticent, while the rhythm keeps the dancers/listeners alert, but not unleashed. At the same time, each of the tracks, especially the first ones, already shows that the potentialities of the sound and the work are already manifest. To get the full picture of the concept and aims of this release, you will have to play it – it will be a pleasant listen, I assure you, not without its demands.

Strive to Be Better is a testament to Vibrations of Gravity‘s commitment to pushing the boundaries of techno. It is not simply a collection of tracks, but a sonic expedition that invites listeners to join the artist in his exploration of unexplored musical realms. In an era saturated with predictable electronic releases, this EP is a breath of fresh air, a sonic manifesto that encourages us all to strive for better, both in music and in life.
