After a year, we’re back on the attack! After a year, Diffuse Reality Records‘ catalogue has grown exponentially, even though previously their catalogue was already immense. And despite the amount of prints it has, the curation is still excellent. This only means one thing: there are always producers and artists with a sound worth listening to; it just needs to get out there, on the one hand, and be heard on the other. The Argentinian-Spanish artistic platform has managed to listen to them.

Among those artists is a regular producer on the label, and one of our favourites. Jorge Correia, better known as Raver’s Diary, has always remained true to his alter ego. At the same time, his sound is always detailed, immense, overwhelming, and always sophisticated. This time, he performs alongside South African, Cape Town-based producer Ssen. They each present a track, which is complemented by a remix of the other. Thus the Portuguese track is remixed by the South African and the South African track by the Portuguese. This opens up the sound to the other’s own art and vision in a process of back and forth.

The original track on Raver’s Diary is called Depressa Ou Devagar – fast or slow, in English. No sooner does one press play than the sound already transports us to the core of a raver/party night: fast rhythms, which do not skimp on intensity, nor progressive transitions from slow to fast. This requires the dancer’s sensitive senses and a light body ready to dance. When the silence arrives, the dance floor splits in two, before and after, fragmenting the night and the dancer at the same time.

After the first phase, rhythm and speed enter contemplative – but not slow – terrain, leading to the twilight of the night and the climax of the rave. The once clear bodies have become shadows beside us, silhouettes dancing to the rhythm of Depressa Ou Devagar, which finally fades into total darkness. This track has highlighted how the speed and slowness of rhythm and intensity can coexist in the same sonic structure. It remains to be seen what Ssen and the remixes of the two between them have to say.
