Dog on Acid presents 25 years of pushing everyone away on Diffuse Reality Records. It’s a collection of ten tracks with the most unique names I’ve seen in some time. Whenever we see an album, we know it tells some story that has to do with the artist, more or less close and intimate. Always with a halo of mysticism and sublimity, something that art often takes over. In this work, whether it is goal or not, we see a more mundane sound art, more attached to real reality, not to the fictitious reality of art, which does not mean that it ceases to be art.
An example of this is För rushigt liv, which can be translated as a busy life. In the everydayness of life for any of us, as is the fast pace of contemporary life, art is echoed in the sound of this work by the Swede on the Spanish label. The sound begins subtly, calm, and soothing. It quickly climbs to speed, which carries with it freshness and velvety electric sparkles, meaning that the sound design has to turn the harshness of the electric quality into something smooth – well done!
After the rhythmic peak, the sound falls asleep in the clouds it has built for itself. In this sweet lethargy, it is the bells that bring us out of the sonorous enchantment. The track resurfaces, amidst cheers and enchanted labyrinths, which bring us back from the previously designed idyll, taking us to ineffable sonorous fantasies, from which we will hardly return. The sound design will take care of that.
Let’s go back to the title of the whole work: 25 years of pushing everyone away. Or how to make art out of the everyday. Without pretentious titles, with influences from everyday life, how to push a person away from us, or the rhythm of everyday life, the sound of this work manages to turn them into art, that is to say, into a fictitious reality through sound waves; but at the same time, it manages to keep that fiction real.
