Mismatch or discrepancy, this is how discord can be defined. It usually occurs between two people, whose perspectives on a subject or issue are dissenting and do not agree, which generates a disagreement. If, on the other hand, we talk about the title of an artistic work, to which we add that the artist’s name is enigmatic and mysterious, we are faced with conceptual nothingness – for now. Therefore, we have to trust the sound – always, in the sound, remember; always.
The sound design of Desencontros, the new release from the Portuguese label, Underdub Records, is spectacular, aiming at the synthetic coupling of the decouplings of the sound structure. Presented by Captain Dark, it consists of four original tracks and remixes by Theony, Joonas Aleksi, and Empath. The most balanced original track is Sala De Estar, which sounds credible if the title and sound are anything to go by – calm, progressive, balanced.
Joonas Aleksi‘s remix to Sala de Estar decouples the coupled but in the form of a new balanced sonic structure. It is a hiatus in the whole release that is dissenting from its overall structure. That is, dissenting with the sound of the other tracks, which are more unstructured with structural discrepancies, as this one is more perennial and static. His way of fleshing out the concept of the whole album is by dissenting from it. And why not, by accelerating the rhythm at the right moment. This acceleration of the rhythm and of the sound structure stabilises in the previously drawn coordinates to be synthesized at the end. And from there to the fading into silence.
Underdub Records is gradually approaching the favourites of Club Furies, while the same applies to Joonas Aleksi, of whom we knew nothing a short while ago. As for our platform debutant, the mysterious Captain Dark, we can tell you that we love this release on the Portuguese platform. Play the whole album – it’s exceptional.
