A node is a «point of intersection, connection or union of several elements». It is also the Barcelona-based techno project led by Dario Duegra, currently structured as an event series and record label. Since its inception in 2017, the NODE concept has become part of the most relevant and emerging wave of hypnotic, mental, and deep techno and its intertwined club culture within the city of Barcelona. In 2020, NODE was also founded as a label, maintaining and focusing on the musical concept of connecting through techno nodes.
Among other things, this means articulating each release through the various artist editions, an art that requires good curation and a strong concept behind it. NODE Recordings has maintained this from the beginning. The sound is always well cared for, as well as the choice of each artist and each set of artists in each release; just as the visual design of the project. The brand new release is titled Anthracite Perception. The chosen artists are: Ancestral Landscapes, Biocym, Fernie, NoSignal, and Vanoni.
Anthracite is the most evolved mineral coal. It is formed, like all mineral coals, by a slow process of millions of years of transformation of plants under pressure and temperature. It is the last on the carbonification scale and the one that needs the most temperature and pressure to form. The title of the release can be read in two ways: the perception of this coal or the perception of the mineral itself.
If we pay attention to the song by NoSignal, a DJ and producer from Extremadura who has been based in Barcelona for several years, we notice what we can hear in his sound: a wide range of sounds from deep/ambient to the rawest techno, full of classics and a very eclectic aura. This time, framed in the semantics of anthracite. How is that possible? Sound that takes its time to be made and then to develop, just like this mineral. In sound, it is not the plants that are transformed, but the structure and rhythms, and not by pressure or temperature, but by the creative NoSignal.
In its development, the song also comes loaded with the whole NODE sound, dense, deep, and hypnotic. But always in layers and sound reels that overlap and follow each other in a structurally organic way, identifying sound nodes that act as vertices. In this process, the anthracite is perceived as a living thing that guides the perception of sound. Dark, taciturn, heavy. Once again, sonorous nodes and artistic nodes that make a well-made and well-cared-for ensemble emerge.
