The Amsterdam, Netherlands-based DJ, and producer, co-founder of the RETUR event concept, member of Profundo Collective, finally arrives at Indefinite Pitch. And we say finally because of the kind of music and labels Trøm Borg has been on. He presents his work entitled Desert Gloam, composed of four original tracks and a remix by the great Noah Lyas. Flashes or desert globes can be the product of hallucinations due to the lack of water, and that can make us spout phrases like Return Of The Second Moon or Sardonic Prophecy. Or they are simply phrases that point to something else – we don’t know.
The sardonyx is a species of buttercup with hairless leaves, the lower ones petiolate, the upper ones obtuse-lobed, with flowers whose petals are barely longer than the calyx, and a juice that, when applied to the muscles of the face, produces a contraction that imitates laughter. The sardonic prophecy points, if the sound of this track is anything to go by, to the inescapable process by which flowers become ethereal flashes of sound that imbue everything with feelings of completeness and idyll.
The track starts at the end of Arabian deserts, where history can be smelled in the desert dust that emanates from the ground, resting placidly on machines somewhat deteriorated by the passage of time. They activate their nuts and washers to make the sound shine. These elements in their evolution show interspatial bridges that take us from earthly deserts to alien deserts. In the face of such a transition, the sound recedes, retracts, thinks itself, and breaks into deltas that implode into ethereal and powerful dances.
Through various moments in the track, their sound emulates the process by which sardonyx flowers bloom and glow in the desert. Not only that: their sound becomes so complex and finely woven that as a whole the layers come to model intergalactic visual correlates. From the deserts of Earth to the Alien deserts. Moreover, the structure of the sound is versatile, allowing for rhythms that enable not only attentive listening but also dense dancing.
