Ucker kicks off the year with an extraordinary release, as well as a powerful and hard-hitting one. When it comes to techno music, Lidvall is one of the most important names today. Based in Tbilisi (Georgia) at the moment, originally from Oviedo (Spain), he delivers a work of five tracks, plus remixes by Linear Phase and STNDRD.

Bilbao is the name of the intro. A subtle pad surrounding the main loop creates tension and a mysterious atmosphere for the adventure ahead. Crossroads is a deeply hypnotic pattern that progresses as the track unfolds. Overdosed nestles at the heart of the EP, and relies heavily on the rhythm section with a tribal vibe and hypnotic tone, which in its progression becomes a sonic overdose that hammers the psyche.

Tribalism and techno come together amid very fine and almost ethereal desert atmospheres. Behind which nothingness becomes everything. While we, in the sound of this overdose, everything is everything, and nothing, nothing. As a backbone, the sound is striking and categorical. The first two tracks announced what was to come in the form of subtle intro and crossover tracks. There is no doubt why this track is also the title of the EP.

Beez Attack has the most powerful bass section. A direct axe to the brain, whose visual correlate puts us in the run we face against a swarm of bees after us. Static has a very electronic and futuristic atmosphere, full of energy and restlessness. A chaos suitable for late-night sets.

It’s time for remixes. Linear Phase‘s version of Overdosed is elegantly brighter than the original, and also groove-based; while STNDRD‘s remix of Beez Attack is pure gold. A journey in itself, it works as a perfect closer. This is impeccable work and Ucker‘s best introduction to 2024.
