The next release from the label from Vila Real, Portugal, arrives. We are talking about Underdub Records, which presents the work of Emilio del Rio, entitled Eclosion. Eclosion word is the opening, the breaking, the appearance, the beginning, the birth, the emergence. Composed of three original tracks, the eponymous track and The Trip and Tokage, we present to you the premiere that sees it all being born.
Let’s take a closer look at the artwork. It’s a sketch of a drawing that looks like an hourglass. At the top, there is what appears to be a heart, not the top of the clock. And from that heart is sand or perhaps blood made sand? If we now relate this image to the title of the work, we can arrive at the following relationship in the form of a question: what is born from this clock/heart of sand/blood?
In sound, the answer is simple, although the sound design is not. Because the sound is smooth, at the same time dense and continuous; there is no room for rhythmic comings and goings, but a stable ethereal tension. This simplicity, however, requires patience and control in the sound design. What emerges in this hatching is a techno sledgehammer that shackles the floor and the psyche. Techno-continuity that becomes a dark idyll.
