Here comes the tenth release from Spanish label The Machines Are Alive, headed by Del Valle. After almost eight years without releasing any music, he returns now for the new stripe on his label’s platter. It is a new facet with two acid techno tracks that promise a close relationship of meanings. For what could happen if we run out of time? That we don’t care about anything or that we care about everything. Del Valle has chosen the first path. However, in order to reach this decision, we will have to go through its previous condition, that of time running out.
Agrestic and arid acid drops quickly become the front from which we watch the world go by. Patient, thermal and aggressively subtle, the sound and heat fizzes to activate the right button. Once the sound gets out of control through the mediation of the button’s decomposition, the sound becomes a non-trivial machine. Recall that one of the characteristics of this label is that all sound is made by machines – not software.
Hence the buttons operated by Del Valle with such precision and sophistication emulate the effect of an autonomy of such machines. But let’s make sure that the equivalent of Skynet is not yet ready to take over the world. Perhaps that point of no return for the machines is what the title of this track foreshadows: Time Is Running Out for humans; it’s time for the machines. For now, it’s time for both: humans controlling machines that produce precise, powerful and sometimes uncontrollable sounds.
