Papazov is one of the Mexican artists based in Playa del Carmen and Tulum. His sound design is influenced by the seventies and eighties. With this he achieves hypnotic techno and exotic house. Creator not only of sounds but also of labels, his most recent project is called Discos Prohibidos, created a year ago.
A record label that remains at the forefront and on trend within the music culture in Tulum, Mexico. With this budget, Discos Prohibidos is committed to providing the most outstanding albums and singles through its artists. One of their most genuine slogans with a direct hook is the hashtag «la pura crema».

With close to thirty releases, the new stripe on the catalogue’s plate is coming. And to celebrate, Discos Prohibidos presents the first edition of Pantheon. A three tracker – Hanuman, Brahma, and Kali – from the boss, which has two collaborations, with Mago Jefa and Gina Lovelace – a regular artist on the label. Mago Jefa creates his music to feed the spirit with organic sounds, hypnotic melodies through the conjunction of House and Techno in a Progressive way.
A pantheon is a temple of all the gods or something that is common to all the gods. Hanumân is the lord of the monkeys, and one of the few gods in Hinduism who is worshipped in all castes and all sects. His strength, erudition, wisdom and humility are his essential attributes, and he symbolises devotion to the sacred, incorruptibility and righteousness.
In Hinduism, Brahmā is the creator god of the universe and a member of the Trimurti, the triad of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. While Kali is the Hindu goddess of death, time and the end of the world. She is associated with sexuality and violence; she is also considered a strong mother figure and symbol of maternal love. Kali embodies shakti (feminine energy, creativity and fertility) and is an incarnation of Parvati, wife of the great Hindu god Shiva.
Three gods of Hinduism and three soundtracks. Hanuman rattles with monkey-like movements, and has that attitude and confidence that only these animals possess. They are masters of movement and space, so the sound of this track has mastery of these dimensions. This gives rise to agile and vigorous atmospheres, capable of withstanding high temperatures, city and jungle.
In the depths of these environments, semi-cybernetic voices tell us something – perhaps it is the pantheon of gods trying to communicate. This forms a subtle duality between nature and gods with machinic cybernetics trying to take over the sound. But Hanumân is not about to let his monkeys be defeated so quickly. And amidst this tension, the rest of the sound develops, which is velvety, electric and fierce.
As a creator of the universe, Brahma‘s sound is fresh, nostalgic, almost ethereal and ineffable. With a very careful and precise sound design, the track runs placidly, while some rhythmic bulbs give it texture and body. Into the nothingness it slips, alighting on the grounds where only the gods can do so. And from that nothingness it becomes everything again: sound that bounces placidly in our psyche, provoking sensations of completeness and floating dance.
The Hindu goddess of death, time and the end of the world, Kali, presents ipso facto electrifying sounds and an enviable assurance of sonic unfolding. As if there were no predefined time and space, and death were a party to be attended with dance and joy – after all, death is impregnable, so all that remains is to celebrate it when it comes. And between inexhaustible and repotentiated energy, the first volume of Pantheon by Discos Prohibidos has become one of our favourite releases of this beginning of the year.
With a powerful concept and a sound that continues to evolve, this release is polished, fresh, agile, sophisticated and full of nuances and sonic atmospheres. This gives it fuel for the dancefloor and for the psyche: mind and body become one, and what the electronic music underground claims for itself is achieved: thinking with the body and dancing with the head.
