Maxi Fernandez is a talented 27-year-old DJ and producer based in Santiago de Chile. His sound art immerses him in the world of house music, skilfully fusing minimalist sounds, acid, and Latin percussion. Under his pseudonym Mxmliano he has made his mark with releases on the renowned Panal Records and Hot Tunes labels. As a member of the duo Loco Blue, they have contributed to several releases, consolidating an active run on the local scene. Soon, an exciting release is anticipated through the prominent label Drumma Records, which we can already enjoy and delight us with one of his captivating tracks in this unmissable set.

Maxi offered us the opportunity to have him in our mix series. We listened to some of his tracks and his mixes and decided that there was no other option than to have them with us. Entitled Cintas Furiosas – Furious Tapes, in English -, it is inspired by the band from the cult film The Warriors (1979) called Baseball Furies, and the awesome Imperator Furiosa, the iconic character from the fourth installment of the Mad Max saga, Fury Road (2015). Conceived as tapes that express a «furious sound», both as a metaphor and as a sonic process, they acquire a special and unique fury with each artist they feature. This time is no exception.

Art is one of those productions of society that is experienced primarily through perception. More through sight and hearing. Something happens with music and its language veiled by the usual language that we have to find a visual correlate that we can then express in words. Because music has its language -unveiled to the rest of us who don’t know how it works and its logic. Thus, the sound of Mxmliano is fresh, summery, beachy, agile, and very enjoyable.

Of these elements we can find precise visual correlates: green meadows, warm sunshine, idyllic beaches, the incomparable company -friends, family, and girlfriend/boyfriend-. With sweet and well-cared transitions and changing rhythms, placed in parallel atmospheres, this Cinta Furiosa reconverts fury into a velvet house that fills the soul and the body. Between dancing threads and sensual bodies that begin to sweat to the music, our body and mind and all our perceptions are completely turned to Maxi‘s sound.

House music has always had the contemporary influence of resting on cool atmospheres and warm suns, although its origin was in the cities of Chicago, which know little about cool atmospheres and warm weather. That is the magic of the universalization of sound art in our contemporary society. Resituating music, in this case, house music, in other places and climates. And suddenly, day turns to night and electronica settles into techno in a crossfade as surprising as it is magical and spectacular.

In between fleeting techno splashes of acid lashes that weave the sound and the dancing in the veins of the night. It starts to get intense. The once sensually sweaty bodies begin to fade into shadows that move around us, between lightning and neon lights. And between house, techno, acid, and subtle, empowering percussion, we leave you with all the Mxmliano‘s Cinta Furiosa, who has left us enchanted. We hope to have him back on our pages soon.
