Club Furies

Pitch.1 is the project of Vincenzo Montalbano, resident DJ of the Tech Clubbers collective – founded by Emanuele, an electronic music collective based in Italy, which curates mixes, events, premieres, and guests on the radio – and a member of this techno collective. His approach to the world of clubbing came during his years in London, which led him to style with the typical sounds of house music. Numerous visits to Berlin clubs added minimalist and dark notes to his DJ sets.

A lover of 90s techno, he nods to acid, Detroit, and industrial sounds, with breakbeat interludes. Pitch is the quality of a sound, which is governed by the rate of vibrations that produce it; it is also the degree of elevation or gravity of a tone. We got the chance to cast him in our mix series; we listened to some of his mixes, and we knew he was part of Tech Clubbers. So we couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

Our mix series is called Cintas Furiosas – Furiosus Tapes, in English. It is inspired by the band from the cult film The Warriors (1979) called Baseball Furies, and the scintillating Imperator Furiosa, the iconic character from the fourth installment of the Mad Max saga, Fury Road (2015). Conceived as tapes that express a “furious sound”, both as a metaphor and as a sonic process, they acquire a special and unique fury with each artist they feature. This time, this is no exception.

The Pitch.1‘s Cinta Furiosa presents a smooth sound that controls the intermittency of the sound vibrations very well and the elevation and degree of intensity are handled with care and attention. This results in minimalist and smooth sound valleys, which, in their progression, place the listener in deep hypnosis on the dancefloor.

This tape also has an immanent quality: from rhythms that serve to warm up the dancefloor to rhythms that get into the veins of the night and the party. In one hour it manages to move from the early hours to the late hours of the night. This is not to discredit the time it takes to go from warm up to after but to focus on the versatility of sounds that Pitch.1 can and does handle.
