Indefinite Pitch‘s Selected Works reach their third edition with twenty exceptional tracks with all the soulful influence of the platform currently based in Yantai, China. Plastered with talent from around the world, we turn our attention to the track from the Colombian duo, currently based in Chile, Beyond Humans. Formerly known as Geometric89 for years, the Chilean duo redefined their musical concept in 2018, projecting their artistic destiny elsewhere.

Ritualistic Light immediately appeals to powerful meanings. Rituals have historically been lived in deep communion with their participants, connecting soul and body to deep and meaningful meanings and realities. Ritual is the set of rites performed around a practice that is considered sacred or profane, such as music.

The ritualistic light alluded to in the title of the track goes much further by adding a noun to it. Not only that but in moving the noun to the adjective. The light becomes a noun and the ritual its companion as an adjective. This semantic detour is not trivial, if we pay attention to the sound. The noun light can refer to a thing that is perceived, such as sunlight or the light of a lamp. It can also refer to a metaphorical quality, like the light in Plato’s myth of the cave, which alluded to a veiled world of ideas.

Let’s take this cave as a starting point, but not the whole explanation of it. On a well-cared-for sound design, which is carried with patience and subtlety, placid and deep visual correlates are modeled: caves and lakes perched in hitherto unknown undergrounds. The dark, metallic clanging of the heights of these places arrives. With reluctance and perseverance, the sound manages to evoke sensations of expectation and excitement.

The intensity of the rhythm and its emerging atmospheres decrease, progressively reaching silence: thick drops of water fall slowly, freezing as they do so – an effect created thanks to the sound of Beyond Humans. The coldness spreads, as well as the reluctance and the desire for oxygen. The light becomes clear, as well as distant; the ritual emerges in that distant light. The sound becomes thin, evoking sharp shining swords searching for pulsating objects. Everything fades into ethereal idylls and expansive sonics.

Ritual becomes passive because the light is the active quality of sound, which has the potential to turn anything that touches its illuminating halo into a ritual. The sonic intensity finally passes – not without leaving us with pulsating sensations and excited hearts – arriving in frozen valleys, in the foothills of white mountains and cool cold suns on the horizon. Perhaps we have arrived in the Chilean Andes, having departed from the Colombian Andes.
