Foodandsound records is a non-profit record label. Based in Andalusia, Spain, they release only on vinyl, focusing their creative work on a handmade level. Each vinyl is treated as a unique piece, giving as much importance to the container as to the content. Only a fixed percentage of each record goes directly to the artist, to support his work, the rest is production cost, which goes back entirely to the next release.

Each one is handmade in Las Víboras Studio, an isolated farmhouse located in the natural park of the Sierras Subbéticas, in the heart of Andalusia. As far as possible, every part of the record production is carbon neutral and uses mainly recycled materials. In the words of the Spanish label: «The memories are a mix of what we wanted to do and what we ended up doing. We pressed sound on wax to bring our dreams closer to reality.»

For their latest release, they release Seigaiha. A collaborative project between the non-profit label foodandsound and artists Owl and Daar. It is also a tribute that the label’s founder wanted to offer to Japan, a country where he lived in the past. A research that wants to point to the Seigaiha concept. This concept refers to contemporary studies of crashing waves; to the sea as a unifying element to inspire and guide both producers in the development of a sound interpretation of the two most representative works of the Ukiyo-e technique: «The great wave of Kanagawa» by Hokusai and «The whirlpool of Naruto» by his heir Hiroshige.

The result is a long improvised ambient piece by each artist that is captured on cassette format, which is then distilled three times as a concept. Both remix themselves and create a club-oriented mix, captured on vinyl format, which is then conceived by elniñodelospeines as a redux version, also on vinyl. Finally, the painter and visual artist Fernando Somé has created an original iron engraving that gives both works a contemporary vision, which is limited and unique, as each numbered run of the matrix is different and the same as the previous one.

For the premiere of this release, we bring you Owl‘s original track from the vinyl format. Owl is a Belgian based producer, founder of 306 recordings. Owl is a electronic music producer who started producing under the alias Glÿph with his friend Clearlight. In 2013, they both decided to broaden their visions of music and experiment with new things. They first appeared on Nord Label, and more recently on Silent Season, re:st, Groundwork and Literature.

Owl‘s aptitude for creating subtle, lush sonic journeys and his latest releases should further cement his reputation. The artist’s discography is in perpetual evolution. From autonomic deep techno dnb to a dreamy and melancholic ambient journey. Owl has been quietly rising through the ranks of a genre-bending leftfield sound where sonic depth and expressiveness prevail.

For his collaboration on foodandsound, Owl presents Konjo, a sonic journey that lasts an entire infinity, and that’s all to say that it is abundant, edifying and very superb. Delicate sound design, careful and very well carried. This allows sound layers that take us to frozen lakes, as well as to warm pastures, where trees and nature refresh and revive the whole world.

Warm beginning, full of overwhelming nostalgia and at the same time that lessens this feeling. Beeps that revive the soul and the atmosphere. Progressively and with enviable calm, the sound structures are filled with infinite times and ethereal and idyllic spaces. All these elements at the same time are structured in sonic layers that end up giving complete unity to the sound. Emerging in ambient, deep, experimental and with spectacular sonic versatility.
