Club Furies

Phanta is the sound art project of Krystel Rascón, a multidisciplinary artist, DJ, and producer originally from Mexico City. She stands out for her captivating mix of ambient and experimental music. As co-founder of the label Antimateria Sonora, Phanta seeks to create immersive environments and sound experiences. She has released music with labels such as Nova Fund Recodring, The Lot Radio, Hypersonics, Traaampaaa, OSSMO, Ineffable, and Krema.

For one of her recent releases to be published, Phanta presents Inferno by one of our favorite labels, both for its curation, its sound, and its whole concept. Ineffable presents Phanta‘s first EP, a visceral exploration of the shadows lingering in our collective consciousness. Blending elements of illbient, dark ambient, and trip-hop, she builds a raw landscape full of aural emotions. Taking inspiration from the deteriorating environment and artists such as We™, Scorn, and Techno Animal. Like the transformative nature of fire, each track invites listeners to confront their own hells and find solace amidst the chaos.

War Within Me is a track that incorporates samples of war in the Middle East, with the sounds of people in revolt and machine gun fire. Overlaying it is the haunting howl of an Adult Cheetah, captured by Chris Watson, bringing an overriding intensity to the chaos. Its sound is stressful and at the same time achieves what Luigi Russolo had proposed many years ago for Musical Noise: to make sound art out of the noises that surround us in this contemporary society.

Through these elements that Phanta synthesizes in sound, she achieves musical harmonies that nevertheless maintain enviable clarity concerning the context from which they emerge. Its title, War Within Me, alludes to the internal struggles we deal with daily, reflecting the external conflicts of the world around us. The war then is twofold: internal on the one hand and external on the other. How the two certainly become one is a plausible interpretation of this artistic proposal.
