Club Furies Review | Contemporaneity and tradition in the sound: Midsection presents Coordenada by Departamento Records

Departamento Records presents its new release titled Coordenada, an EP by Midsection. From Mexico City, this project presents itself as straightforward house, music that transcends time. A balanced mix of samples and synthesizers that manages to capture the mystery of creativity in tracks carefully recorded live. The modulations over the sequences bring each sound to life and show the attention to detail of the producers behind Midsection, Rafa Navajas, and Daniel Quiroz.

Coordenada represents an evolution in House music, where the fusion of rhythms and textures creates a distinctive and modern sound. With a production that seeks to maintain the essence and intention of each take, Coordenada establishes itself as an authentic expression of musical innovation. Each track is a brief history of a different era. The instruments are always the same: Octatrack, Juno 106, Moog Little Phatty, and DSI Mopho. That gives solidity to the sound of this EP. The audios are captured live and the editing is minimal, as we want to preserve the intention of each take.

The first of the tracks, R1, quickly plunges us into the world that Midsection has modeled for us. Retro atmospheres amidst contemporary layers of sound, where the vocals flashback to the Chicago house of the nineties and early twenties. With a carefree sound design and warmth in the production, you can feel the soul and love in every note.

The second track, TR12, indicates the coordinates of this work. And it is a duality and paradox: between agile sounds underlie semi-dense structures. The first ones take us to floating and ethereal places, while the second ones take us to dark and lunar dance floors. The rhythm follows its course to culminate in somewhat unfamiliar deltas, but at the same time secured by the house of which they are a part.

The third track, M2, is partly the culmination and synthesis of the second track. Dissolved the paradox, in which fresh meadows and smells reach the sound, the agility has now given way to a peaceful and rather relaxing sound. While in latent tones electricity and fleeting acid drops are responsible for the sound of to remaining part of the track as well.

At this point, we realize that Coordenada is so-called because it follows simultaneous and parallel heterogeneous paths and directions, whose quality is what gives it homogeneity. The house feels more on the surface than in the previous tracks and the idyll smells close. In the end, everything is dropped amidst electricity and very fine and delicate machinistic knobs.

The fourth track, TR11, is a flashback to those once mythical clubs of contemporary world electronica, whose sounds end up being the perfect contemporary/tradition synthesis. Very fresh, electric, and quite sophisticated elements amidst classic pioneer atmospheres and ambiences.

The duo of Rafa Navajas and Daniel Quiroz, who make up Midsection, have managed to capture an atmosphere that is both fresh and resonant, using a sonic palette that combines traditional and contemporary elements of the genre. Their focus on quality and detail is reflected in every track on the EP, offering an immersive and memorable listening experience. An attentive listening release, but one that can also be a tool for the track in the right decks.
