Club Furies

One of our favorite Mexicans labels is about to release their new work, the next line in the catalog. We are talking about Discos Prohibidos, the label based in Tulum, led by our beloved David Sattva, producer and multifaceted artist. This time they present Carlos Alberto Cruz, producer and DJ from Mexico City, who in his career as Geistech has achieved a hard and dark style based on IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) and Techno. Geistech‘s music spans so far three generations, achieving a melodic atmosphere with different shades of electronic music.

For Discos Prohibidos he presents a collection of four original tracks entitled Regression. Regression is the process of retrocession or the action of going backward. The first track of this work is titled Dame de tu Cuerpo. An ode to suspended sound and sonification in the void. Between ethereal atmospheres and thin sonorous layers, the vocals barely give us any indication of where they want to go back to.

For now, it only plunges us into existential and spatial voids, far from all comfort and everyday knowledge. Never before has a beginning been so spectacular and desolate at the same time.

The second track, Conexión, is that. Between the nothingness in which the sound had left us and its relation with something we know. Semi-electrified darkness and threatening atmospheres. Now, the once-unknown time settles in semi-silent territories. Time freezes; it stops; it eternalizes. May it reach threads of silence and deep underworlds. Behind that veil, reddish and purple figures begin to wiggle so that everything hovers in sensual figures that concretize the connection.

Capricho reconverts the taciturn notes of the previously poured sound into more Indie Dance sounds, infused with Trippy and subtle IDM. This shapes a complex sonic skein, but it is very evocative and very appealing. Between the dance that wants to get out of control and the attentive listening, the body and the senses begin to be subjugated to their sound. The once dark and arid atmospheres become warm and fresh. And when we least realize it, we are in the veins of the night and in the interstices of the dance floor, in the midst of fine threads that call us to the other side…

The Baile Prohibido arrives. Behind the side where we were and in which Geistech has taken us. Each track was a unit in itself, with particular rhythms and meanings, but which as a whole were steps for this track: the regression is complete. The dance is unleashed and the dance slows down. The clubbers forget to think and submit only to the designs of their senses and their body. It is necessary for now then to wait for the words and to feel only our body.

The regression is a coming and going between darker notes and those same notes in taciturn and agile speeds. This forms precise and very suggestive sound pendulums, between which attentive listening and dance are extremes to which the sound takes us. And in between, combinations of one side and the other become sensual notes.

This is once again a spectacular release by Discos Prohibidos, this time led by Geistech. Far from the mainstream of today’s electronica, be it electronica in general or techno and indie dance in particular. It knows how to shine by himself, making the art forms his own: finding the novelty in previous recursivities.
