Club Furies

HAPE is a soundscape designer, geometric artist, and electronic musician. His kind of music is mesmerizing, with mental images with sometimes impossible geometry. He makes music, records nature, and designs soundscapes. HAPE (in English means ACID) is the most rhythmic electronic music project of composer, soundscape designer and visual artist Taavi Tulev. HAPE has been around since 2007, and has been seen and heard mostly in live performances, although studio production has been fruitful.

Tulev has previously released electronic music without a concrete stylistic definition, as well as several records with nature recordings. The last of these was «Äike» (Thunder), a vinyl record with thunderstorm sounds, which was released in the spring of last year. Having previously collaborated on album artwork with various artists such as Holger Loodus, Kristi Kongi, Okeiko, Liisa Kruusmägi and Triinu Lille, this time the author did the digital night painting himself for the cover of this edition.

Despite the longevity of the project, Night Life is Tulev’s second release under this alias. It is one of one of his most recent releases, presented by the Finnish label EABE. On this release, the electro EP, four of the five tracks have been completed in the last few years, while the remaining one comes from 2009.

Composed of five original tracks, Serious Business goes to the heart of the sound of this work. Between a lot of energy and transverse nostalgia, this track manages to modulate a very nice atmosphere and ambiance; beautiful pasts that become present in the now; and futures that seem almost utopian. With more than four minutes, the rhythm is always cheerful, and very striking, between clouds of idyll and sound layers rich in complexity and versatility.
