Club Furies

One of our favorite labels presents its new release. It’s Hxagrm Records Valencia-based, featuring Urgula, a Techno producer and artist from Glasgow, Scotland. Urgula runs a monthly night of live electronic music at Noise Box and Subplant Records. He performs live regularly, using hardware and modular synthesizers.

For Hxagrm Records, Urgula presents a five-track collection of advanced techno, entitled Humans Can Balance On Strange Surfaces, a title that in itself presents exciting conundrums. After Hycean World, the first cut, made of solid beats and hypnotic sequences brilliantly arranged for maximum effectiveness on the dancefloor, is followed by Gas Giant.

A gas giant is a giant planet that is not composed mostly of rock or other solid matter but of fluids; although such planets may have a rocky or metallic core. The cut entitled Gas Giant may be a sonic translation of that planetary referent. In its sonic elements, it is paradoxically agile yet heavy. Its hypnosis quickly positions itself in the center.

With opaque percussive elements and subtle bleeps as a sonic recipe, it becomes an asset for any DJ who wants to position the audience in the midst of stars and distant galaxies. In its becoming, time is diluted and decoupled from what we know. It is a kind of dimensional scream that opens reality to time travel and takes us into subtle, cybernetic realities.
