Finland’s Kitkatone has been working with techno for years. His work combines hard-hitting beats with playful, punchy melodies, spiced with a touch of Detroit. He is known for his live performances with pure and energetic hardware, as well as his fearless mixes of underground dance music, from Berghain to secret Finnish basements.
Kitkatone runs his own label ENOTAKTIK and co-hosts the radio show «Bänger Zone» with Man Jorge on IDA Helsinki. For his label’s next release, he presents an Split EP, led by himself and our favorite Empath. It’s called Third Mind and consists of six tracks, three by each artist. Choosing a favorite track is difficult, because all six tracks are exceptional, and also with different rhythms.
IDDQD hits hard at the start; it is incipient and piercing. And just as the delta climax approaches, the sound changes direction. Towards nostalgia, delicacy, and brilliance, loaded with sampled vocals that call out to us warmly. Towards silence in drops and beats that stop, leaving everything in pause. The beauty with which the sound is handled from this moment on is impressive. With the ability to evoke beautiful sensations.
And when we believe that we disappear in such environments, the sound returns to drill as a tool club on the dance floor. And from there to the synthesis of all the sound layers swirling in the structure. This means that it is at the same time the end of the night and the party when the sun rises again and our mind buzzes noisy silences, while in the distance sounds the other night, the one that calls us to restart again.
