Club Furies

From near one side of the Gulf of Bothnia, in Tampere, Finland, a new sub-label emerges. It is S E R E M O N I A, the emerging techno sub-label of the Finnish label EABE. It is an extended play titled Uhrilahja I, a Finnish word meaning «sacrificial offering». The first sacrificial offering for the most ancient gods will be delivered on the date of pagan mystical tradition, the day of fools. The protagonists of the mission are Loot, Jarkko Räsänen, Empath, and Amuritekno.

Club Furies Premiere: Mikael Vilja – Enactment [EABE]

Loot takes us on a journey into ethereal and spectral hard techno with Minimal Space. Jarkko Räsänen immerses us in sleazy Berlin-style techno with Slack. Empath gives chills with rough sound design and dubby subs in Liminal. While Amuritekno, the Tampere techno duo, with smooth live techno with a punk touch, honors Detroit roots with their epic and warm Lauha.

Through a ten-minute journey, the last track could not be a better closing of this first work and the best opening to the sonic universe of this new sublabel. With all the imprint of Detroit, with all that Funk character that characterizes it, and all the electricity of the detroiesque machines, this ritual of sacrifice takes us through ancient times, pre-apocalyptic times, and future times. Because, what is modern time if not one that is conceived as the unity of the past/present/future difference?

In the sound of Lauha, but also throughout Uhrilahja, the passivity of a ritual, often followed by collective freneticism, permeates deep within its sonic layers. Idylls and nostalgias that are projected, not only to the future but also to the past. With calms and valleys of silence that give the opportunity to reflect and a perennial time that becomes the canvas on which everything can happen.
