Hailing from Rennes, France, Ethos Records represents the style that a speaker appropriates to capture the attention, gain the trust of the audience, and seduce them through passion. For one of their most recent releases, they present Split, an EP of four original tracks, presented by Commuter and EKATA. On one side, Commuter’s retro-futuristic elegance, fuelled by early electro vibes and a fascination with Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode. On the other hand, the dark, cinematic world of London-based EKATA, explorer of dystopian, sci-fi inspired grooves.
The project features four tracks, two by each artist, showcasing unique interpretations of electro. Commuter offers pieces where sharp melodies and impeccable rhythms interplay with new wave and EBM influences. EKATA, meanwhile, takes us on an immersive sonic journey, driven by abyssal bass and haunting synths.
Escape to 1101 is a sonic velvet of uncertain, reticent, subtle, and calm futures. Which is to say that these are non-turbulent times to come. However, the very nature of sound is uncertain, emergent, and full of uncertainty, and this is also shown by the sound in its becoming.
So we are before a duality or dissenting parallel sound tracks. It is up to us whether we climb into this emerging reality, created by EKATA, which opens up dimensional cracks, and invites us to approach them with security and electricity. In short, at the crossroads of epochs and sensibilities, it is an ode to the timeless richness of electro.
