In the realm of the possible, the impossible is played out; or, to avoid falling into metaphysical territory, we could assert that it’s in the realm of the possible where the different is made possible. From the varietas ad infinitum that electronic music often falls into—a result of its own success as an art form—to genuine difference. That is, it’s no longer about repeating the same thing to generate more of the same. It’s about generating what is different from variety. This, in the strict sense, is what makes it possible to speak of electronic music as an art form—one that turns reality into real fiction.
This time, we are talking about two of our most cherished Mexican artists, who have managed to build a career that is, on one hand, nascent, yet on the other, more than established. We are talking about Deenia and Praqqa, the heads of Veneno, with multiple artistic projects, versatile DJs, and producers in full swing. They now present a joint collaboration titled «Kroovy,» released on their label, Veneno. A mere two tracks are all that’s needed to overflow with attitude and sonic power. The eponymous track and «Ztorm» form a spectacular double-tracker that transcends styles and pre-established limits, dedicated to the new and different. What is art, if not finding novelty in the old?
While Trance is certainly visible, it is also true that the music plays on sonic rails that infuse it with different styles. This is what gives it its uniqueness. «Kroovy» is an energetic velvet that makes us fly, both psychically and corporeally. It ventures into the ethereo-sonic terrain, where this physical quality undergoes delirious alterations in Deenia and Praqqa’s sound design. With reliable recipes that will make our bodies explode, but also with soundscapes that range from sandy valleys and vast steppes to mountain ranges and deep caves, where everything becomes frenzy.
«Ztorm» promises ritualistic darkness amidst neon purple electricity and green drops that fall and rise indiscriminately. Hesitant beginnings, which keep us expectant, are colored by dazzling vocals that head toward the core and, at the same time, toward nothingness. Energy instantly rumbles (ipso facto), and bodies are already dancing without realizing the moment they started. The sonic delta quickly takes us to the nostalgia of past times, but also of future times, playing between fleeting Darkwave notes and fine threads of frugal skepticism.
In the end, this two-track package makes one of the core tenets of electronic music culture a reality: sonic hedonism in the hands of two artists who continue to show artistic abilities in crescendo and with progressive sophistication and precision.
