Gonzalo Blaya: The Architect of Shadows and the Futuristic Pulse of «Deca Dance» on Logia Records

Gonzalo Blaya, the architect of shadows, presents his debut EP «Deca Dance» on Logia Records. Blaya inhabits the most hidden margins of the underground. His work proposes a journey into the unknown, where rhythm and shadows merge into a single frequency. Born in Buenos Aires in 1979, this producer, musician, and DJ traces an invisible line between darkness, sonic elegance, and a futuristic pulse that challenges the conventions of current techno.

Shaped by the vibrant countercultural scene of the 90s, his sound fuses the rebellious essence of punk and new wave with the emotional sophistication of the synthesizer. His journey began with a Tascam 424 portastudio and the legendary Korg M1 and Roland W-30, forging a hybrid philosophy where the tools serve the artist and not vice versa. After exploring various aliases and projects, such as the innovative PAPU Dark Disco, Blaya now reaches his full artistic maturity with his debut EP for Logia Records.

Blaya’s collaboration with Logia Records marked a new stage, solidified by previous contributions like the original mix «Fake» and his remix for the Mexican duo Mala Conducta. This label has become the natural space for his evolution, a place where his raw and elegant sound finds a perfect ecosystem.

«Deca Dance» is not just an EP; it is the crystallization of a sonic quest. The record includes two original tracks—dark, elegant, and rhythmically hypnotic—which are complemented by reinterpretations from two long-standing colleagues and friends: Leo Portela and Francisco Di Gianni. Together, they expand the release into new emotional dimensions.

«Italo Affair» presents an elegant minimalism that runs at 102 beats per minute, a cadence in which time seems to freeze, opening the sound to other dimensions. Melodic synthesizers and a constant pulse evoke contained movement and desire. The vocal flashes are the spark and the gasoline that ignite that desire. In these moments, the rhythm enters valleys that allow everything to flow ad infinitum. Once the sound has stretched sufficiently, the space-time cracks have widened. This italo love affair becomes an ode to the introspective dance floor, where time appears to be suspended.

Francisco Di Gianni is both a witness and an architect of the genesis of Buenos Aires’ electronic scene. Since his beginnings as a founding member of the Club Rayo collective in the late 90s, he participated in the first South American raves and established himself as an essential disseminator of Deep House, as well as the vanguard of IDM, Dub Techno, and minimalism. His career has made him a constant presence in most of the city’s underground temples and on international tours.

A music lover and cultural researcher at heart, Di Gianni translates his curiosity into both his sets—introspective and danceable journeys—and his work as a producer. His sonic exploration has led him to fuse electronics with live musicians in projects close to folklore and electronic tango, compose for audiovisual media, and release work on his Soulutions Records label, including a vinyl championed by Jordan Fields of Chicago, reflecting a career of constant evolution.

Fran Di Gianni contributes a reinterpretation of «Italo Affair» with a more house and chill out vision, creating an ethereal and luminous atmosphere, evoking the sunrises of Ibiza. If the original mix was an ode to the introspective dance floor, this interpretation is equally an ode to sensuality, to the precise time it takes to establish a connection with the other. Time is suspended here as well, but for the connection to take its time and be achieved. A sensual sound, slow but very well managed, lightly electrified, and extremely well executed.

In «Malware,» Techno and Electro merge into controlled tension. The rhythm’s speed is ipso facto frantic, leading us towards unknown reality cracks. The tempo decreases, entering beautiful savannahs tinged with reddish and neon purples. A hypnotic structure, deep basslines, and percussions mark the pulse of modernity, reminding us that technological malware is lurking all the time.

Leo Portela is an architect of atmospheres and a fundamental piece in the cartography of Argentina’s independent electronic scene. His journey began in 1997 with the alias «Index,» exploring Drum & Bass, Ambient, and Nu Jazz, before finding his focus in House and Lounge. He was a pioneer in disseminating Chill Out in Argentina through influential compilations and also ventured into composing for film and television, forging a personal and recognizable harmonic concept.

In his constant evolution, Portela has directed his creative gaze towards darker, more textured terrain. His current work concentrates on the depth of Deep Techno and the broken cadence of Breaks, reaffirming a career dedicated not to trends, but to the authenticity of sound and sonic exploration.

The legend Leo Portela offers a fundamental reinterpretation of «Malware»: a deep house version, elegant and danceable, which refines the original groove and expands its universe. The entire track becomes a constant loop that, with its perpendicular rhythms, orthogonalizes the whole sound, raising exciting, yet subtle sonic sphinxes. Once again, the track’s extended nature causes time to stop, making it one of the defining qualities not only of this track but of the entire release. Dance floors, dancers, sensuality, sound, and plenty of attitude.

A meticulous and enigmatic creator, Gonzalo Blaya conceives sound as a form of introspection. His music is not a declaration, but an invitation: a journey between shadow and desire, where rhythm and elegance merge into a timeless and mysterious pulse. «Deca Dance» is the testimony of that journey.
