CF Premiere: 2:29 – Too Late To Wire [Dalmata Daniel]

Shifting Bits is the first long-playing release from 2:29, a young Dutch producer who officially debuted earlier this year on the Pride Or Die compilation by Dalmata Daniel. This new eight-track cassette not only solidifies his sonic identity but also deepens his artistic vision.

The project’s core consists of five original tracks —one of which is a self-rework—, plus three remixes by Betonkust, Le Chocolat Noir, and Hadron Lundgren. All pieces are built upon sombre electro with melodic touches, conceptually centered on the idea of transition and transformation. The title directly alludes to his background as a software engineer: in computing, «shifting bits» implies altering values irreversibly, a perfect metaphor for how his sound and creative process evolve as he transitions from a digital to a more tactile, hardware-based workflow.

«Too Late To Wire» establishes a nostalgic atmosphere, precisely framed within the temporal semantics of electronic music as a genre and as an artistic project of society. The track surprises with an unexpected transition that, while maintaining that initial nostalgia, now revitalizes and energizes it with fresher, brighter rhythms.

The music’s overall climate feels cold, yet strangely warm. It is a sonic autumn that refreshes amidst the darkness of abandoned civilizational projects, those in which technology plays a crucial role. The entire album plunges into the utopias that devolve into dystopias, in the middle of the silence that emerges from noise. «Shifting Bits» is an electro meditation on the irreversibility of change.
