Debuting in mid 2025, the Buenos Aires–based techno label Rauschtrax has quickly become one of our favorites. From its visual identity alone —clear, direct, and carefully crafted— the label positions itself as a must within the underground circuit. To open the year, Rauschtrax presents Red Black, the alter ego of Nicolás Cárdenas, a DJ and producer from Bogotá, Colombia.
His sound is deeply rooted in raw, deep, hypnotic, and hard groove, strongly influenced by Detroit techno. Tribal percussion, sharp high frequencies, and powerful basslines dominate the mix, shaping a sonic language that is direct and uncompromising. Red Black is also the founder of Raw Bogotá, a platform dedicated to promoting underground techno culture in the Colombian capital, creating space for subgenres such as raw, mental, deep, Detroit, and hypnotic techno.
With this release, Red Black delivers the label’s second artist EP, following a strong first release and two outstanding Various Artists compilations. The record consists of three original tracks, complemented by two remixes from Osado and TMLSD, which expand the material into new rhythmic interpretations.
Zumba Mental is a title that is both intriguing and provocative. Zumba, understood as a bodily practice focused on rhythmic movement rather than reflection, seems to oppose the idea of an active or analytical mind, as well as electronic music as a functional tool for that purpose. Yet this apparent contradiction is resolved decisively through sound.
The track begins in a direct manner, aiming straight at the heart of the raver. Restrained yet confident openings evolve into subtle hypnotic states that gradually envelop the body. Sonic labyrinths activate physical movement amid carefully designed machine textures, whose deltas dissolve into psychic tribulations and relentless rhythmic drive.
