Allpa Puruma was born in the outskirts of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and from there began shaping a musical path deeply rooted in exploration and an absence of prejudice. A musician, producer, and composer, his artistic identity is driven by a constant need to connect with music. This impulse has taken him on a journey where his beats are built through percussion and a wide range of instruments such as the djembe, didgeridoo, zicus, and charango, blending rhythm, body, and sound.
After returning to Argentina, he reconnects with electronic music and shifts his focus toward techno, a genre that motivates him to formally study music production. Without abandoning his native instruments, he gradually incorporates drum machines and synthesizers, allowing organic rhythms and electronic textures to coexist. Over time, this fusion becomes his signature sound: experimental, hybrid, and deeply influenced by cultural roots. He is also the founder and owner of Kusiya Records and Tucca Premiere, and is currently developing Tucca Records and Achalay Records, expanding his vision beyond his own productions.
Allpa Puruma now makes his debut on Illegal Alien Records, following a series of powerful and well-received releases on respected labels such as Hayes and Subsist. He arrives with a compelling five-track EP titled Yamandú. Defined by a raw and distinctive sonic vision, shaped by hypnotic rhythms and a forward-thinking approach, this release stands as yet another strong statement from one of the most promising young talents in the Argentine techno scene.
Yamandú (or Ñamandú) is a Guaraní word meaning “the first,” “the origin,” or “the primordial beginning.” It refers to the supreme deity of Guaraní mythology, also understood as “the giver of life,” “the protector,” or the “Lord of the Spirit.” The name carries deep cultural and spiritual significance, often associated with leadership and guardianship, and has been adopted in South America to symbolize commitment, strength, and guidance.
The second EP track is Sabia que Ibas a Venir («I knew you were coming»), a subtle and hypnotic track from start to finish. Fine electrified threads run through its structure as constant enhancers, replenishing the track’s energy cycle after cycle. At the same time, nostalgic latencies act as textural layers for complex emotions and sensations, which the rhythm manages to streamline and ground. The result is a beautiful and agile duality, where intensity and sensitivity coexist in perfect balance.
