Black Hole Transmissions is a collaborative digital label formed by the London-based Dark Matter Project and German producer Solenoid. For the label’s upcoming release, Solenoid returns after last year’s Neural Implants, this time delivering an EP of deep, hypnotic techno that further solidifies his sonic identity.
Vertical Drift traces a path through minimal and hypnotic techno, where relentless rhythms, razor-sharp hi-hats, and enveloping synth layers build a deep, almost meditative atmosphere. Throughout its opening tracks, the EP moves fluidly between trance, sustained tension, and sonic magnetism, carefully setting the conceptual and emotional groundwork for its closing moment.
The final track, Ritual, stands out with flashes of fast-moving acid synths layered over a strong, driving rhythm. Its opening, marked by shimmering trance-inflected tones, cleverly conceals what is yet to come. Gradually, the sound design unfolds with clarity: acid droplets fall slowly and precisely, transporting the listener to a space where the nostalgic and the utopian coexist. Emotions and sensations become fully saturated, wrapped in a sound that is both beautiful and powerful.
Intensity is handled with restraint, shifting between refreshing momentum and moments of controlled calm. It is a form of strength that knows when to assert itself and when to withdraw, supported by a versatile sonic structure that allows for both tight, focused passages and expansive, immersive stretches. With this release, Solenoid once again demonstrates his command of raw, deep, and hypnotic techno. He never disappoints.
