From the deep north of Europe—where shadow and light coexist in constant tension—ƒourest, the duo formed by Saana Schnabel and Ville MJ Hyvönen, emerges with a sound that feels both intimate and expansive. United by a shared fascination for the intersection of classical instrumentation and electronic sound design, their project does not merely explore this crossing point—it reshapes it with striking sensitivity.

What began as an open-ended laboratory—blending traditional acoustic instruments with analog synthesis and drum machines—has evolved into a distinct and evocative sonic identity. Organic warmth from violin, clarinet, and voice meets the surgical precision of electronic production, resulting in a singular fusion of cinematic atmosphere, techno, and minimalist ambient.

Their compositions delve into the emotional potential of contrast, balancing richly detailed atmospheres with subtle yet steady rhythmic structures. The outcome is a nuanced, immersive listening journey that moves toward the unknown while maintaining an internal pulse that anchors the experience.

This release also marks the platform debut of A001, a Helsinki-based imprint inspired by the northern lights, endless winter nights, and the vibrancy of Finland’s underground scene. Moving between minimalist house, peak-time techno, and electro-indie with a distinctly Nordic sensibility, A001 positions itself as a label to watch—music equally suited for the dancefloor and for contemplative home listening, always guided by a refined curatorial vision.

TRAUM stands as ƒourest’s first extended format and the label’s bold opening statement on our platform. The EP features four original tracks plus a digital bonus, and will also see limited vinyl and cassette editions—an unmistakable sign of A001’s long-term commitment and aesthetic clarity.

On Volition, the concept of willpower—understood as the human faculty to decide and shape one’s own conduct—takes sonic form. Delicate chimes are abruptly cut by forceful, attitude-driven surges charged with restrained menace. Just as the structure fractures, it folds into near-silence, only to be overtaken by electronic bulbs that reshape the track’s texture into something expansive and meticulously constructed.
