After a few months, we return to Wäxxel, the Swedish record label based deep in the forest. From this almost mythical setting, the imprint has developed a distinctive identity within the European techno landscape, built around a curatorial vision that privileges each artist’s sonic individuality. The label’s mission is clear: to create a home and a platform for producers who share a certain sonic affinity, allowing them to fully explore the sounds they identify with. In their own words, the goal is to champion “intelligent, energetic, dark, and slightly unhinged sounds,” a phrase that perfectly captures the restless spirit of the project.
For its latest release, the label introduces Swedish talent Hugo Nyreau, who delivers the original track that forms the backbone of the EP. The piece is reinforced by a powerful remix package, expanding its sonic universe through reinterpretations by Franz Jäger, SIMA, KUHKUZA, Astmadalens Acidklubb, and UNWONTED. Each version pushes the original material in a different direction, extending its reach both for immersive listening and for the intensity of the dancefloor.
From Gothenburg, SIMA offers a particularly striking interpretation. His version opens a landscape where darkness and shadows advance with an undeniable force, like a presence approaching without fully revealing itself. The rhythm of that approach gradually intensifies while the raver watches carefully; yet more than watching, they sense it: breathing accelerates, perception sharpens, and the body begins to anticipate what is about to happen. The feeling is one of total imminence, as if something inevitable is already vibrating in the air.
From there, spectacular sonic deltas begin to unfold—smooth, luminous surfaces that at times seem to dissolve into stardust and ethereal crystals. The synthesis of texture, energy, and sensation ultimately embeds itself deep within the space of the dancefloor. As soon as this climax emerges, the rhythm recedes, creating breathing spaces that stretch toward darker and more contemplative territories.
On the other side lies a reconciliation of opposites: duality transformed into unity. Tension and calm, luminosity and darkness, propulsion and suspension. Once again, Wäxxel demonstrates that its vision goes beyond club energy, building atmospheres capable of reshaping the experience of time and movement.
