Some artists build their sound in one place. Others forge it by moving. Jorg Rodríguez clearly belongs to the second group. His career began in Mexico City, expanded to Barcelona —a stage he himself recognizes as fundamental to his artistic development— and eventually returned to the Mexican capital, carrying everything he absorbed along the way. That journey isn’t just biographical: it’s written directly into his music. Over the years he has developed projects spanning live performances, DJ sets, and studio productions, and through all of them has defined a sound that is today unmistakably his own: fresh, percussive, and powerful. Techno has always been his natural territory, and that has cemented him as one of the most solid and respected figures in the Mexican techno scene.
The label welcoming him for this release is Hall Works, a techno imprint based in Colombia, arriving at its seventh release with a selection that says a great deal about where its catalog is headed. The fact that a Colombian label chooses a Mexican producer of Jorg Rodríguez’s caliber is no coincidence —it’s a sign that the Latin American techno scene is having increasingly rich conversations between its cities and communities. Hall Works has demonstrated, release by release, that it has genuine curatorial instinct and isn’t afraid to bet on artists with a voice of their own.
The work Jorg presents here carries a title that surprises with its straightforward honesty: Yoz Loves House Music. Three original tracks that need no justification —only listening. There’s something refreshing about a techno producer openly declaring his love for house music and putting it right in the EP title without any hesitation. It’s a clue about what’s coming: not music boxed into a single genre, but something that breathes between genres with total ease.
At Club Furies, this release brings us a particular kind of satisfaction. Jorg Rodríguez is part of that generation of Mexican producers who have proven that you don’t need to leave the country to make music at an international level —though leaving, as in his case, only adds to it. Seeing him release on a Latin American label like Hall Works, with the solidity this EP shows, is exactly the kind of story we love to tell: one of a scene growing from within, connecting with its neighbors, and needing less and less external validation to know its own worth.
«Casino Life» is the track that has stayed with us most from this release, and it’s not hard to understand why. It’s a brilliant techno hammer —but a hammer someone decided to coat in velvet. That’s the paradox that makes it so compelling: the ferocity is there, intact, but the sound design mediates it, softens its edges, creating a fascinating duality between strength and smoothness that coexist without canceling each other out. The rhythms begin in constant crescendo, climbing with a relentless determination, and then —rather than exploding— stabilize with surprising speed to roll together like a techno roller that simply doesn’t stop. Powerful and elegant at the same time. Jorg at his very best.
