We return for a new installment from one of our favorite current labels. This is Wetland, commanded and directed by the great Damne, who now present a solo work by Speed Mode, following their joint collaboration released just a few weeks ago.
This time, Speed Mode presents «Flare,» a collection of three original tracks completed by a remix from the label boss, Damne. The EP is conceived as a triptych of shadows and signals. «Stack» constructs a crushing percussive and industrial foundation. «Larmoyante» (Wailing) interweaves melancholic, weeping synth lines through the relentless rhythm. Finally, «Flare» ignites the darkness with a sharp, cutting lead, acting as a distress beacon in a desolate soundscape.
And precisely with the final track, we begin our deep dive. The description of «Flare» is, according to the artist who guides the interpretation of their art (something we love), entirely accurate: «a sharp, cutting lead, a distress beacon in a desolate soundscape.»
The track unleashes constant sonic power amid realities that seem to swallow all life. It is nuclear energy unleashed in environments whose energy is draining away. These dualities—the distress beacon against the desolation, the constant energy against the exhaustion—emerge from a spectacular sound design that establishes Speed Mode as a formidable narrator of industrial and apocalyptic landscapes.
