We return to the first Various Artists compilation from Abstract Mechanisms, the sister label of Illegal Alien Records, titled One. The release brings together fifteen original tracks that serve as a clear introduction to the label’s curatorial vision — diversity, coherence, and a shared narrative running through the compilation. This time, we present the premiere of a track by two artists based in London, United Kingdom, expanding the sonic map of the release. Following our earlier premiere of Spanish artist Ana Alves, it’s now time to introduce Minus Infinite of BARNJEM and ØLMØ.
If electronic music, since its origins and the futuristic avant-gardes of the early 21st century, has long suggested a future in which sound tends toward infinity, the title of this track raises an inevitable question: what does it mean to subtract something from the infinite? One possible answer points toward a return to the finite, to restraint as a creative act. Yet there’s another equally logical reading: if infinity has no end, subtracting from something that never ends still results in infinity. This paradox becomes the conceptual starting point of the piece.
Beyond the idea, the sound of Minus Infinite is fierce and unapologetic. The track is aggressive and relentless, driven by heavy, hammer-like blows that strike repeatedly against the very structures holding it together. This repetition creates an iterative effect that extends beyond the sound itself and into the body, turning dancers into captives of its pulse. It’s a track that refuses compromise, insisting on its presence and finding its strength precisely in that insistence.
