Raised in the mountains of Guarne, Colombia, NEJ is a DJ and producer inspired by the timeless sound of ambient and deep music, developing minimalist textures, immersive atmospheres, and deep, resonant pads. Though discreet in presence, NEJ has remained relevant since 2014, becoming a key figure in the region within deep and atmospheric techno circles.
His work invites a connection between the self and the source of frequency, creating soundscapes that transcend the physical realm and draw inspiration from the divine. Throughout his career, he has shared stages with artists such as Bruno Ledesma, Linear System, and Sam Wilson, and released music on labels including Default Series, Habitat Musical, DOSIS Records, and Concepto Hipnótico, reinforcing a coherent and deeply introspective sonic identity.
For one of his most recent releases, NEJ appears on one of our favorite labels, Dosis Records, based in Santiago, Chile. Alltid is a collection of eight original tracks forming the Colombian artist’s new LP, developed over a long creative process deep in the Colombian jungle. The album reflects a profound and introspective approach to techno, shaped by isolation, natural surroundings, and a strong emphasis on atmosphere and sonic detail.
If our translation is correct, Frid i ditt ansikte means “peace in your face.” The track unfolds as a deeply hypnotic techno funnel, constantly refined and entangled in a back-and-forth movement that feels both exciting and serene. It is a sound that seems to rest upon frozen lakes and unexplored tundras, quietly claiming its place in the world.
A sonic landscape polished until it reaches near-absolute calm within the noise of silence. A piece that gently suggests the world might — and perhaps should — fall silent once again, if only for a few seconds. It may well be a way of slowing down what has been accelerating for far too long.
