Black Hole Transmissions returns with its tenth catalogue release, NeuGroove, bringing Berlin-based producer Solenoid back to the label for his fourth release on the imprint. Across six tracks, the EP stays firmly rooted in deep groove techno, balancing pounding kicks, subtle melodies and constantly shifting percussion. It is a functional, tightly focused collection built around movement and repetition, with enough variation in its textures to keep the groove evolving throughout.
Solenoid approaches the release from several angles without losing its central pulse. Tritech opens with deep rhythmic pressure and changing percussion, while Hard Stab introduces a rawer edge alongside restrained melodic elements. Glass pushes further into hypnotic territory through its deep bass and shifting hi-hats, and Escoria follows with a darker combination of deep rhythms, subtle percussion and melodic details. Closing with Anstrengend, the EP returns to its emphasis on deep grooves and intensifying rhythmic patterns.
Our premiere focuses on “Back To Detroit”, a track whose title makes its reference point fairly clear. A pounding kick establishes the foundation from the outset, while deep, understated bleeps move through the arrangement with a restrained sense of melody. The track draws from the Detroit techno tradition without turning the reference into nostalgia; instead, Solenoid works with its core elements—depth, repetition, space and propulsion—and folds them into his own groove-driven approach.
With NeuGroove, Solenoid delivers six cuts that remain focused on the physical side of techno while allowing subtle changes in rhythm and texture to shape the journey. Back To Detroit sits naturally at the centre of that approach: deep, direct and hypnotic, with just enough movement beneath the surface to keep the floor locked in.
