Subsist Records goes back into its archives with REW 02, the second release in its rewind series and a collection that brings together material from different moments in the label’s history. Tracks originally released more than a decade ago sit alongside previously unreleased material from Jeroen Search, Mattias Fridell, Fran Hartnett, A4, Izars, and Luis Ruiz. It is a look back at the catalogue that still leaves room for new discoveries.
Izars appears on the vinyl edition with Don´t, while the digital version expands his contribution with Voltaire and Reincidi2. Across these tracks, the Spanish producer becomes another thread connecting the different eras gathered on REW 02. The idea of the rewind feels particularly interesting here: material from the past returns to circulation while unreleased pieces reveal another side of the same catalogue.
Our premiere is Izars — Reincidi2, one of the release’s digital bonuses. The track settles into a deep, stripped-back techno groove, using repetition and subtle shifts to build its atmosphere. Its restrained approach gives the rhythm plenty of space, with small changes gradually altering the weight and movement of the track. There is something quietly obsessive about the way Reincidi2 keeps returning to its central pulse.
With REW 02, Subsist Records turns its archive into something that can still be experienced in the present tense. The compilation gathers different pieces of the label’s history while leaving enough space for unreleased material to change the picture. Reincidi2 adds another layer to that process, resurfacing from the Subsist orbit and keeping the rewind in motion.
