Club Furies

Javier Araya was born in Argentina, and when he plays turntables, he introduces himself as DJ Lazar; when he works in the studio, he introduces himself as CementO. In 1994, he moved from Argentina and Chile to Norway, keeping his childhood love for music, especially Electro from the eighties. Exposing himself to artists like Hardfloor, Thomas P. Heckmann, and other European artists, he diversified his diverse musical tastes. One of Jeff Mills’ iconic sets (at Tokyo’s Liquid Room), ended up entrenching him in Techno, deepening his exploration into the genre.

After some time in Norway, he began to perfect his skills. Javier Araya began working on his own productions under the alias CementO and has been refining his sound ever since. He is one of those underground gems who know what they do, and do it seriously; it is as I like to say, from the art, who keeps the underground distinction vital in electronic music, particularly in techno.

We have had the pleasure of casting him in our mix series, the Cintas Furiosas, and now the desert label presented him. Arido Records presents their EP titled Misshapen Etheral Mass. A four-track EP with strong tracks to fill the dancefloor with heavy beats and hypnotic tones; with drone ambiances and ambient atmospheres, this is one of those EPs that are strongly rooted in the techno underground, and also partly in its experimental side.

We present the premiere of the intro, called Destroyed Beauty, a name that in itself carries a strong potential meaning. Amidst futures that are soothing in silence and fading hopes, the sound throbs progressively more distant and slower beats. The layers of sound, loaded with conceptual meanings full of emotions and sensations, are coming together perfectly.

And the sound continues its march, towards the past and towards the future, simultaneously. A temporal contradiction that is perfectly modalized in CementO‘s sound design. And while time passes, in parallel, time stops and disengages, subsuming itself to the designs of the sound of Destroyed Beauty, which has disintegrated our known coordinates, modeling new ones.
