Introducing Nik Matern, electronic music producer and DJ, founder of the Plankton Repellent label, and pioneer of the dark minimal genre. He is known under several aliases, each dedicated to a different genre. Planctophob is one of Matern‘s main projects, created in 2012. According to the main idea, «Planctophob» is a person whose only fear is to become a part of the drifting, aimless, and uninteresting mass. Planctophob is not just a separate person. It is a thought form, a manifestation of will and consciousness, an instrument of conscious intention. To be Planctophobic means to avoid the futility of existing.

The Rotating is the newest long play in Planctophob‘s musical offerings, consisting of eleven interconnected tracks. Each track is inspired by a different asteroid in the main belt and is designed to be enjoyed individually or seamlessly merged with adjacent tracks. Beginning with ambient tones, the album transitions into Planctophob‘s signature dark minimalist sound, before evolving into a dynamic fusion of deep and fast techno melodies. The album’s theme is a poetic exploration of the cosmos, where the asteroid belt serves as a symbol of the relentless rhythm that permeates the universe.

33 Polymnia is an asteroid that is part of the asteroid belt. Named after Polymnia, a muse of Greek mythology. Its sonorous becoming is at the same time warm and full of mysteries and stardust yet very fine and subtle. Fleeting duration, which makes us realize the existence, which can be lasting and sparkling. In the end, the sound flows in the silence of the cosmos…
