Rey Alister started producing electronic music in the late nineties, creating countless aliases for the different styles he tried. Since 2007 he produced mainly geeky Tech House under his alter ego Mentalic, while Rey Alister‘s alter ego grew as the years went by. He has always had a predilection for melodies and music with a dreamy, melancholic, and dark dystopian atmosphere. His themes perfectly reflect his experiences and points of view. It is his way of processing everyday life.

The German artist is known for his special affinity for dark, atmospheric, and melancholic melodies, creating themes that mix the dreamlike with the dystopian, always reflecting his personal experiences and perspectives. For Rey Alister, music is a powerful way to process everyday life and express his deepest emotions. For one of his most recent releases, he is featured on one of our favorite labels, Brazil’s Primitive State Records. The Greek Tragedy is an EP of four original tracks, ranging from 135 to 139 beats per minute, with the eponymous track getting double treatment with Sequence 1 and Sequence 2 versions.

Sequence 1 is the version that opens this sonic universe that – I must say – is a sophisticated one, which continues to show on the one hand the potential of the German artist, and on the other the quality of the curatorship of the label based in São Paulo. A fast-paced structure, however, is mediated by a sound design that keeps it latent and threatening, but unavoidable. Between dancing skulls and tinkling darkness, sophistication and sonic complexity are evident.

And when night becomes day and day becomes night, the party shows itself as it is: agile, reticent, threatening, self-confident, cocky. And the techno decks now let feel all their strength and all their energy. And all this happens in caves and unknown places, outside the hubbub of conventional mainstream electronica. Let this sound shine in the underground, allowing it to be what it is.
