Faced with the social reality that Gaza has endured since the middle of the last century, on October 7, 2023, a pro-Palestinian military coalition launched a defensive attack against Israel, which has been illegally occupying Palestinian land for more than half a century. This attack led to an intensification of the Israeli entity’s genocidal policy against Palestine.
Fake Lines is a politically motivated, non-profit record label created during the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. Created as an act of cultural resistance, the label confronts the colonial legacy that drew false lines across the Levant region.

Every fake line drawn by colonizers implies the violence of division by splitting communities that share deep history, culture, and identity. The “Fake Lines: Sono Levant” compilation confronts this colonial legacy head-on, especially as the genocide in Gaza is enabled by the fragmentation of surrounding countries into pseudo-states; products of imperial divide and conquer tactics that leave them stripped of real sovereignty.
This 36-track compilation unites artists from the fractured and conquered Levant region and its diaspora, alongside guest musicians from Tunisia, Algeria, Iraq, Turkey, France, Venezuela, Italy, and India. Spanning alternative and anti-pop sounds, the compilation journeys through folk, experimental, rock, hip-hop, ambient, electronica & everything in between.

The album is released via Fake Lines, a non-profit record label created in partnership with San Francisco’s Proton Radio. Neither the label nor the distributor takes any cuts. All proceeds will go directly to APN’s “Revive Gaza Farmland” project, which provides seeds, supports cultivation, and helps farmers bring produce to market at fair prices. https://www.instagram.com/apnorg/
The Last Postman is a Syrian indie band founded by Muhammad Bazz and Louay Kanawati in Istanbul in early 2015, which was later joined by the rest of the members, Bahila Hijazi, Hekmat Alkassar, and visual artist Mohamad Mousalli in Berlin in 2016. In Istanbul, they initially composed and recorded four experimental tracks that earned them a Music Board Berlin grant in 2016 to record their first album.
Fake Freedom brings with it a nostalgic sound trend, full of past futures that never were and present futures that want to be different from the present. One of our favorite tracks on this compilation, it fills a world that has lost all hope in humanity and its supposed exclusive quality for progressive human and natural progress with freshness and electricity. In the face of the events that have triggered this campaign, there is no hope left.
