Operating in the unceded territories of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, artist Orca Silent channels the sonic weight of the Pacific Northwest, sculpting spectral drones along a hypnotic continuum. Utilizing a 12-channel system, their textured atmospheres unfold toward tonal decay, forming a mix that feels less like a traditional composition and more like an immersive spatial experience. With recent performances at the acclaimed Submerge, a scheduled winter season, consecutive album releases, and continuous podcast production, Orca Silent continues to shape ambient, techno, and «grey area» soundscapes with an unmistakable resonance.
Their personal record project, Deephist, based in Victoria, British Columbia, already features two releases, one of which is now receiving its second installment. This is the continuation of the «Path» series, the first part of which came out mid-year. The piece «Chasm» bursts in with the feeling of imminent threats, building apocalyptic atmospheres and the ever-approaching roar of combustion engines. It is a sonic architecture of paranoia and anticipation.
The track captures a moment of absolute fracture. While all elements halt for a second, breath vanishes, and reality, along with all hope, fades too. By the time the sound resumes operation, hope is tinged with despair, and reality has transformed into fiction. It is a sound that evokes extremely powerful sensations. In its apparent minimalist simplicity lies a grandiose sophistication and complexity, confirming Orca Silent’s mastery in weaving profound narratives from pure texture.
