From Colombia and currently based in Spain, the mysterious producer Hallweg presents the eighth installment of his label, Hall Works —a project that with each release advances visibly and deliberately toward sharper sound design and more refined curation.
This is not a label in a rush: it’s one that builds. And that patience shows in the trajectory, in how each reference adds something the previous one didn’t quite have. This time, the release is titled Inmutable —a three-track original collection that, like the best short EPs, says more with less.
The central track states everything from its name: «New Wave of Techno». And the sound that accompanies it is so coherent with that declaration, it makes the declaration unnecessary —listening is enough. It’s a cold sound, settled into utopian atmospheres that embed us in the logic of Tron: Legacy —that film that plunged us into the depths of alternate realities, with its architecture of light and darkness, its impossible geometries, its coldness that paradoxically felt alive. But beyond the cinematic reference, the title can also be read as a reflection on the current state of the supergenre: a critical yet constructive gaze, an alternative vision that doesn’t reject the inheritance but interrogates it.
The sound is constant, settled into layers that accumulate progressively but subtly, within a very fine sound design that doesn’t show off. Enveloping without being crushing, the track positions itself close to peak time —but with a fleeting hypnotism that keeps it away from easy maximalism. It’s capable of detonating a dance floor with full conviction, but does so without forgetting what techno has always been at its best: music that doesn’t forget the floor, but does forget —and rightly so— the senseless frenzy. A new wave that doesn’t break with the past, but distills it.
