Founded in 2019 by Drop-E and Mau, the independent imprint Signal Rec has cemented itself as an unwavering bastion for techno, industrial, and drone. On this occasion, the platform features the debut of Yunze Ou—the new project of an anonymous producer whose background shifts between IDM, glitch, and ambient—who delivers Boot NVL.
With a hazardous swampland as its conceptual backdrop, this three-track original EP pays homage to the dark side of the genre, channeling personal experiences and the imminence of a dystopian future into a moment of catharsis that injects a human touch into rhythms that would otherwise remain cold and relentless.
The backbone of this mutation manifests severely on Boot_NVL_54, a track that reveals itself as piercing and intense from the very first second. The piece waives any introductions and strikes with the momentum of an unstoppable, imposing bulldozer, articulating a dense, metallic, hybrid materiality.
