Originally from Germany and currently based in Vilnius, Lithuania, Kontrapunkt has established itself as an imprint dedicated to releasing music primarily on vinyl and cassette formats. Its catalog brings together a diverse selection spanning globally influenced house, gritty lo-fi techno driven by broken beats, and conceptual ambient—a broad sonic spectrum bound together by an uncompromising underground identity.
At the helm of the platform is Nikita von Tiraspol, a DJ, producer, and resident at MCKR—one of Leipzig’s key subterranean venues. With over a decade of igniting dancefloors through a dynamic and cross-disciplinary approach, his sound centers around leftfield house and indie dance, integrating global textures to construct fluid narratives that have taken him to international venues like Jupiter Disco in New York.
This converging vision gives rise to their latest release: Nights In Tokyo, an EP born out of a late-night session between U-T and Nikita at Tokyo’s Maison Amper club. The record unfolds across three tracks capturing distinct atmospheres of the Japanese night, mapping out a versatile palette tailored for different moments on the floor.
U-T‘s version opens the release with a high-energy, rhythm-driven track, surgically built to elevate the room during peak hours. Meanwhile, Nikita von Tiraspol delivers a dub-infused rework designed for early-club sets, introducing self-recorded trumpet lines. To close the package, Japanese artist Ko Umehara provides a minimalist, trippy, and spatial treatment packed with groove.
This final cut is precisely our Premiere: the reinterpretation by Ko Umehara. Slow-motion psych-infused sound design allows us to feel the music progressively entering the bloodstream. Once merged, a seamless synthesis occurs with striking fluidity, guiding the listener toward reality layers that feel subtle, luminous, and ethereal.
