Ficture is the alter ego of Gábor Tokár, a collage of diverse sound sources — from field recordings to analog synthesizers — always working from the premise that, literally, everything around us can be a potential part of music. Based in Budapest, the producer and sound designer arrives on EC Underground with Tart, an enveloping track that blurs the line between precise digital composition and fragile, acoustic-leaning textures.
ECU was founded in 2018 by Mike Griffin and Florence Meuleman as a multidisciplinary artistic collective that has developed several complementary areas of activity. With more than 25 years of experience in the underground scene as a music producer, Mike Griffin handles ECU’s business management and distribution relations. Known for her deep involvement in the European electronic music scene as a programmer, event organizer and community administrator, Florence Meuleman offers artists a comprehensive service of artistic management and public relations for events, with the aim of guaranteeing the best experience in our interactions. In March 2020, EC Underground refreshed itself as a new record label and distributor, a hub for the resale and promotion of music based in Europe and the UK — a center with the goal of spreading music in the United States and strengthening relationships across the oceans.
For its most recent release, the label presents Ficture, who debuts on EC Underground with Tart. Alongside the single, a WAV sample pack is published — 70 elements extracted from the original sessions at 126 BPM — under a pay-what-you-want model through Bandcamp. All the material comes directly from the original sessions: hybrid bass pulses, acoustic and digital, glitch-aesthetic percussion and deep textures, ideal for producers interested in IDM, textured glitch and experimental bass.
The liminal as a sonic territory is the concept that articulates the release: the point where known time and space are transmuted into something else. To expand the universe around Tart, a small but solid group of underground electronic artists from around the world was gathered. Each remix reinterprets Ficture’s intricate acoustic-digital loops in a different direction, opening them toward a more intense dancefloor impulse, minimalist glitch structures and carefully deconstructed textures.
Also known by aliases such as Balkansky, Bulgarian artist Iván Shopov is a multidisciplinary producer recognized for merging deep cinematic atmospheres with powerful, subterranean bass. His relationship with the label emerged naturally from the WECU community, a collaborative project of mixes and constant exchange that now culminates in this first official remix for the label. Shopov’s remix of the original comes from the ethereal; a clean, bubbling sonic decomposition takes shape, one that knows how to navigate between dimensions, skirting and placing itself in the liminal. And when the tension reaches its peak, the cinematic takes hold, achieving an echo that works as a sonic synthesis. And at the end, the silence that lifts us toward the idyll.
