DENNISONN is a Slovenian DJ and producer whose sonic identity is forged in the shadow of underground techno. His craft consists of a meticulous exploration of dystopian landscapes, where hypnotic elements lie buried in deep, reverberant, distorted atmospheres. Each of his sets is a careful construction. No random selections. Hardgroove, hypnotic techno, minimal: genres he handles as materials, not as labels. His mixes stretch through time with a coherence only obsession can sustain. And that obsession has a name: to create hissing tensions, hold them at the edge, and release them through gleaming steam valves. Each release is a reset. Each reset, a new layer of pressure.
Vexed Grooves, the Munich-based German label presenting his new release, operates as a conduit. A circle that expands without ceasing, where rhythm becomes rite and sound becomes symbol. Monolith is born directly from raw emotions, forged in the depths of dark rooms and fed by the energy of formative club experiences. Five tracks make up the EP, each translating the hypnotic essence of the underground into a coherent sonic narrative. The beast advances as a sequence of transmissions: perception shifts slowly, reference points begin to fade. The listener ventures into territory where time is measured in cycles, not minutes.
‘One In the Box‘ functions as a rotor within the entire release. Its density is perennial, constant. And yet it manages to maintain a balance. A beacon in the darkness of the surrounding sound. Throughout its development, intensity unfolds with reluctance, with care. The hypnotic labyrinths it builds are deep and extensive, like dark tunnels without end or beginning. Sound unfolds in loops that seem to lead nowhere, but each rotation adds a layer of texture, a new edge. There is no exit. Nor is there any need for one.
The monolith of the title runs through the entire EP as an underlying presence. A constant structure while everything around it transforms. Time wears away, patterns return, but the architecture remains. In that space of permanence, Alberto Tolo and R1PE contribute their own readings. Tolo takes ‘Galactic Drive‘ toward a different perspective, shifting the angle without breaking the prism. R1PE, founder and host of the Vexed Grooves podcast series and label, reconstructs ‘In Control‘ from a more contained and inward approach. Two gazes on the same structure, two ways of inhabiting the monolith.
The techno DENNISONN proposes needs no explanations. It settles in the body, in the breath, in the space between kick drums. The original story of the EP —that narrative unfolding in five movements— continues its course even in the reinterpretations. As if the monolith could be viewed from different angles without ceasing to be itself. Listening becomes an act of orientation: finding the beacon, following its light, getting lost to find it again.
